Hmmm. This is all very interesting.
You know, I personally would *not* call them a "tribute" band, since their performances are *not* a tribute to the only like "Lynyrd Skynyrd". I think that if anyone here were a fan of the real Lynyrd Skynyrd, they'd see both mine and Horsdumonde's points: That performance on Soundstage was lousy, and racked up with what we'd expect from a band using this hallowed name, it was shameful and embarassing.
I might also add, and will, that it seems that most of you haven't even seen this performance, or if you have, you've not mentioned it. How can you argue with what we're trying to say if you've not even seen the performance? That seems dim-witted to me. One person said that the perfomance on Soundstage wasn't representative, and I truely appreciated that persons comments. That did, in fact, give me some hope that this band is worthwhile and not a waste of time. Did anyone else do that? No. It was all knee-jerk reactions and ad-hominem attacks. I really expected a little better, but am not surprised.
I wonder why this new "Lynyrd Skynyrd" even uses the name, except for obvious reasons, which is that it gives them credibility and opens doors. They really have very, very little in common with the real band, except for the fact that Gary's still kickin' around as best as he can, and they play the old songs, albeit, not very well. Seems to me that they should concoct a new and unique name for their band, and not continue to drag the name Lynyrd Skynyrd through the mud as they do. I don't see how anyone with any pride or self-respect could do so, after viewing that performance on Soundstage. Since 1987, The bar has been getting lower and lower, to the point that it's now scraping the ground.
One more point: Let's get real here. There's no honor in denial. If you *did* see Soundstage and *are* still shouting about how great they are, and that Horsdumonde and I are both full of crap, you are sadly in denial. Where is your pride? Fan denial of the truth is not good for the band, ultimately. No matter what they may claim to the contrary when speaking to their fans, they've clearly lost any sense of responsibility. They're skating by on D+s, and expecting to pass. Whatever's good enough to just scrape by over that bar, I guess. If fans held them accountable, if you did see a subpar performance, heard a record that wasn't up to snuff, and let them know via forums such as this, they might get a clue and try harder. This is what I would expect from a band who is using the name "Lynyrd Skynyrd". Perfection. That's what Ronnie VZ expected from his band, right? And that's what made them famous, yes? And without those high standards, they really aren't honoring the name Lynyrd Skynyrd, are they.
In summary, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Judy VZ pulls the plug on all this nonsense.
Have a nice day,
