After purchasing my VIP tickets, got an email asking for shirt sizes...wondering if we'll get 'em before the concert & what they look like. Sure hope they don't look anything like the fan club shirts! Not complaining 'bout my FREE shirt..just hoping it's better quality material & not white

As Oct 31st drew near, most parents were shopping for superhero costumes, or some ghoulish garb for their kids, as have I for the past 18 yrs gotten my kids geared up for one of their favorite nights of the year. After we found out Skynyrd would be playing in Galveston, TX on Oct 31st, gave my 8 yr old son a choice, Lynyrd Skynyrd concert, or trick- or-treating. It was a no-brainer to him…SKYNYRD!! I wasn’t a bit surprised though, being that he’s a huge Skynyrd fan and has been for years. Funny to say bout an 8 yr old. But so true! So instead of shopping for what ever he thought was the coolest “thing” to be this year, I shopped for new Skynyrd shirts!! My 18 yr old daughter loves Skynyrd as well and both were so excited to see them live. They’ve heard my Skynyrd concert stories over and over, (most of em at least) and were excited to begin making their own.
Night of the concert.. what a start for my little Skynyrd fans!
Before we knew it, loads of people had made their way in front of the stage before Skynyrd came out. We were so far back it was near impossible for my son Durham, or my daughter Brittany to see the stage! I had warned them this would happen but just being there was enough for them!
Now Skynyrd hit’s the stage, & the guys open w/ Skynyrd Nation, Brit was able to bob & weave for glances but Durham couldn’t.. I thought.. HE’S JUST GOTTA SEE ‘EM!!! So to heck w/ my back issues, I pick up my 110 lb son & TRY to put him on my hip, a friend grabbed him from me & put him on his shoulders so he could see. Quickly the security guard gets our attention & back down Durham goes. He only got quick glimpse of his idols, his heros..his favorite band… & none the less completely ecstatic!!
So before the song was over, the guard once again gets my attention & motions for us to come up front. Ugh Oh I thought.. he’s gonna make us go back to our seats.. Boy was I wrong, an awesome guy standing @ the very front & near center stage gave the 2 of us his spot so Durham could see! We were now standing just a few feet from ‘em! He was totally star struck! Almost embarrassed the few times they looked & pointed @ him. This 8 yr old boy knows each & every member by name.. new & old. Hell he could probably tell ya more about Skynyrd than I can!
These amazing men that he’s listened to, read about, you tubed, & idolized for yrs were right in front of him performing! To say the least, he was in awe!! I’ve been to numerous concerts & seen Skynyrd many times starting back in ‘87 @ the reunion tour. Never ever have I been this close to the stage, so I was every bit as excited & in awe to say the least!
As always the guys put on an amazing show & even after the 2 hr ride home, we had trouble winding down for sleep! Before the concert he'd tell everyone he came in contact w/, even grocery store clerks, that he was going to see Lynyrd Skynyrd in concert. So Monday morning & school couldn't come fast enough for him to tell everyone about the concert & that "Johnny Van Zant, Rickey Medlocke, & Sparky pointed @ me!!
My daughter later asked her lil brother if he understood how extraordinary it was to see this legendary band up close like that. We knew how special it was. But did he? 8 yrs old, your 1st concert, front row, watching your favorite band, which happens to be the GREATEST band of all time…Lynyrd Skynyrd…how do ya ever top that?
