Blue Christmas Benefit Concert for the Alzheimer's Association of Western North Carolina
Valdese, NC: Robert Kearns presents the Second Annual Tom Kearns Memorial Blue Christmas Benefit concert for the Alzheimer's Association of Western North Carolina. The Concert will be held at the Old Rock School House in Valdese, NC on December 17 beginning at 7:30 PM.
Tickets are $10.00 and can be purchased at the door or by calling 828-879-2129.
The concert features music by Bobby Denton, The Harris Brothers, Jonathan Birchfield, Jaret Carter, David Wiseman, Ron Shuffler, Chris Clifton, Greg Simmons, Jim Ashton and Special Guests Laurel Creek, The Moore Brothers and Michael Reno Harrell.
The Alzheimer's Association is the premier source of information and support for the 5.3 million Americans with Alzheimer's Disease and related disorders. The National Organization was founded in 1980 is a non-profit organization and is the largest private supporter of Alzheimer's research.
The Western Carolina Chapter provides patient and family services, information and
referral, education, and advocacy in the 49 Western North Carolina counties. We also provide a variety of services including Support Groups, a Helpline, Educational Programs, Circle of Hope, and MedicAlert(r)+Alzheimer's Association Safe Return(r).
The Alzheimer's Association is the premier national voluntary not-for-profit organization dedicated to the fight against Alzheimer's disease. There are other organizations with which the Alzheimer's Association has no relationship, but they often use the name Alzheimer's in their solicitations.

Grand Opening Concerts Begin
LAS VEGAS – One of the most iconic rock bands in American history will bring Texas-style barbecue and entertainment to Excalibur Hotel & Casino with the ten day grand opening celebration of Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer on Thursday, Dec. 1.
“With Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer, we created the kind of place we would want to hang out at,” said Johnny Van Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd. “This is the perfect spot for rock and barbecue fans to kick back, listen to some great music and have a good time in Vegas.”
“Lynyrd Skynyrd fans from around the globe have reached out about attending the grand opening of Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer,” said Michael Frey, co-owner of parent company, Drive This! Entertainment. “We plan to put on a party that fans and barbecue lovers alike will never forget.”
The grand opening celebration will kick-off the first day of National Finals Rodeo on Thursday, Dec. 1, and extend through Saturday, Dec. 10. The packed lineup of live music and appearances includes the Official American Country Awards After Party complete with an informal jam session by some of the industry’s top performers and the Jack Daniel’s “Eat ‘N’ Greet” luncheon followed by a special benefit concert later that evening, both hosted by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

The “Eat ‘N’ Greet” luncheon will feature an incredible opportunity for fans to enjoy an intimate meal with the band members of Lynyrd Skynyrd along with an interactive presentation by Jeff Arnett, the 7th master distiller in Jack Daniel’s 142-year history. The evening concert will offer Lynyrd Skynyrd fans a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be one of just a few hundred people to see the iconic band perform in their first dining venue.
Tickets for the grand opening concert are priced starting at $300 per person. Tickets for the “Eat ‘N’ Greet” and concert package are available for $750 per person. This package also will include an array of signature grand opening items including a limited edition single-barrel bottle of Jack Daniel’s topped with a commemorative bronze bottle-necker autographed by Arnett and the band members of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Entertainment, a Las Vegas-based hospitality company that owns and operates RHUMBAR at The Mirage, Tacos & Tequila at Luxor Hotel and Casino and Casa Fuente in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer will serve fare from Kreuz Market in Lockhart, Tex. A tour of barbecue joints throughout the nation led them to the 111-year-old Texas institution, where the barbecue has been refined to perfection by the Schmidt family. Kreuz Market has been widely recognized as one of the top barbecue restaurants in the country, with top honors for their brisket and sausage by the Food Network and Travel Channel, and a rating as Zagat’s number two barbecue spot in the nation.
The band’s famed “Hell House” is the inspiration behind the atmosphere, and band members Van Zant, Gary Rossington and Rickey Medlocke have consulted with the culinary team to highlight some of their barbecue favorites.
Designed to capture the spirit of the band’s “Hell House,” the walls are made of authentic 150-year old barnyard wood, with concrete floors and aged brick completing the downhome feel of the space. The tables are made from floors of historic grain barns and the surface marks are hoof marks from many generations of animals. The tabletops are made of rough-faced old growth Doug fir from pre-World War II era from historic sites including a 1927 Brentwood house and a Los Angeles church. The staff is part of the action – hot bartenders and servers will be swinging and singing - leading riotous sing-alongs to classic rock songs and Lynyrd Skynyrd favorites.

After a mere four studio albums, Lynyrd Skynyrd experienced a significant drop in sales as well as several key personnel changes. But a hastily conceived concert
recording set against the backdrop of Americaʼs bicentennial would result in one of the most successful albums of their career, a double LIVE album featuring the bandʼs enormously lauded performance chops.
“In rockʼnʼroll, back in those days, you matured like a dogʼs life. Every seven years is one year, you know”, guitarist Gary Rossington tells show host Redbeard.
Growing up poor in Jacksonville Florida made for its own
challenges, struggling to become a professional outfit. Rossington points out, “The way we used to change guitar strings, Alan(Collins), Leon(Wilkeson) and I, weʼd always go collect Coke bottles. You get about 10 or 15 Coke bottles and you could buy a new set of strings.”

Lynyrd Skynyrd Tours Site of Future Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer at Excalibur Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS -- Johnny Van Zant, Gary Rossington and Rickey Medlocke from Lynyrd Skynyrd were thrilled with the progress of their new restaurant and bar as they toured Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer at Excalibur Hotel & Casino.
The restaurant slated to celebrate its grand opening in early December will feature the very best Texas barbecue from Kreuz Market, based out of Lockhart, Tex. Van Zant, Rossington and Medlocke were in Las Vegas for their sold-out concert at the M Resort, but made it a point to stop by and see the beginning of their first and only restaurant.
These rock 'n' roll legends were in the best of spirits and found themselves in awe of the restaurant, making mention of it being a friendly kind of cool place that they can't wait to hang out in. Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer will have dancing bartenders and nightly performances for patrons to enjoy. Three of the ladies showed up to give the band members a sneak preview of some of their high-energy moves. Before their performance began, Van Zant shouted, "Free Bird" and then went on to say, "I've always wanted to stand in the audience." As the girls finished their smokin' hot routine, the legendary rockers clapped and whistled giving the ladies a nod for their dancing skills.
After touring the space, the band discussed an upcoming tasting, as well as a few Southern favorites they have planned for the menu. Rossington said, "All this is cool, but the food has gotta be good." The Schmidt family of Kreuz Market has perfected their barbecue for more than 100 years, earning the restaurant the #2 spot in the nation for barbecue by Zagat.

Band to open Lynyrd Skynyrd-themed Vegas eatery
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The band famous for hits including "Freebird" and "Sweet Home Alabama" is planning to open up a restaurant on the Las Vegas Strip.
The Las Vegas Sun reports (http://bit.ly/oaSMO2 ) the Southern rockers of Lynyrd Skynyrd have licensed their brand for a barbecue and beer restaurant in the Excalibur Hotel Casino
Lynyrd Skynyrd BBQ & Beer is set to open in December. It will feature Texas-style barbecue for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and serve as a nightclub after hours.
Band members are planning to play occasional shows in addition to music from cover bands. Bartenders will lead customers in sing-alongs.
The newspaper reports the eatery is modeled after the tin shack dubbed "Hell House" where Lynyrd Skynyrd band members lived and practiced in their early years.
