Just wanted to let yall know about my visit to Gillsburg on Oct. 20. I have been there several times, but this time, the brush had grown up so bad, I couldn't reach the tree that fans have engraved on and left gifts at. So, I laid some flowers at the gate leading to the woods. The old owner of the property seemed to take care of the property, but the new one has let it grow up - maybe he is tired of fans coming in and out - who knows. I live about 45 minutes from the crash site and go as often as I can. The field that the pilot was trying to land in is still there, as well as the creek mentioned by survivors. Very moving experience even if I didn't make it to the tree.

Ronnievz1977, can you provide exact directions to the crash site? I have seen a video on Youtube showing the area, and believe I have found that spot on Google Earth, but I can't find the path leading into the woods. Any help would be greatly appreciated! |
