Skynyrd and the Confederate flag

Heck, I practically live just south of the Canadian border and I still see Dixie as an interesting song. :)
Liked it since a previous history teacher included it on the "American history in song" compilation she made for the class. [In the interest of balance, "Battle Hymn of The Republic" was also included.]

The flag is part of my heritage & American history.I had kinfolk serve as an officer during the civil war on the side of Virgina. They did not have slaves nor support slavery. The nation as a whole had to come together to repair what was left of the south.Much of which was laid to waste & burned out, crops, farm land & cities.I see nothing wrong in flying the Stars & bars.It does seem like in these days it takes the talk from being about the music to a conversation concerning the war of northern agression. My kinfolk joined the southern army AFTER the north had invaded their land & took their farm.If the people who fought in the war could forget about it enough to go forward in the years right after the war, I would think that we,the people of today could do the same.Instead of looking at the things we disagree on that we should try to find common ground in the things we like.A good place to start is with the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd & how a good song is timeless. That music has the power to let us forget about life & its problems for awhile.I go into the music to escape from the 6 o'clock news not live it 24/7...A wise man once said,"that he didn't read that daily news,'cause its hard to think with the blues".Music is made to bring people together & smile awhile.Sing & be happy, life is too short to feel sad & shabby.

Have U ever been down to the ghetto? Have U ever felt that cold wind blow? If U don't know what I mean, stand up & scream 'cause theres things goin'on U don't know

Admittedly block-of-texty (I admit I've been guilty of that myself on other forums), but I credit 01776 for the effort.

Thanks for the tip, Paul - Skynyrd is one of the most underrated classic rock bands. We in Skynyrd Nation know better.

What rock lost in 10/77 was no less than what it lost in 2/59.

Is this amusing?
