Ed King
May 14, 2012 11:31:57 PM UTC Post #1

There was a discussion thread about Ed King that was apparently deleted by the Admin. Not sure why, but it further reinforces my question about why Ed, Arti & Bob are not acknowledged anywhere on the band website for their contributions to the band. It could be argued that without the song "Sweet Home Alabama" having been written, we would have never even heard about the band.

What are your thoughts?

I say leave it alone.
Yes they picked a note and beat a drum, but we don't know what went on behind the scenes.
Even though they were members of the band, and played a role in the band, they have long since left the band.
The folks who run this board and more importantly Lynyrd Skynyrd have spoken either with words or with silence on this matter and we should listen.............as in just listen to the music, and leave the music "business" to them.

My thought is I would have preferred my Skynyrd without Ed now and forever.

My thoughts are facts in that Ed King has that Origenal sound touch of Hell house influence that can Catapault the music with The origenal traditional Lynyrd Skynyrd Sound period.

And that post of ed in the Tshirt so what who hasnt made a funny picture inthere life?

Its funny how people make fun of him but since people make fun of him Rick Medlocke is open game to make fun of too then
I think its MORE funny how Rick Medlocke is like in the band like doing a lot of talking and stuff like its his band and Whats more funnier way too hilarious is Rick Medlocke Trying to sing that song on first and last called White Dove LOL!ha ha how did he ever talk ronnie into letting him put that on a lynyrd skynyrd album?LOL!
if that dont tell the story of today and yesterdays reason why RICK MEDLOCKES influence disperses that influence of the core Lynyrd Skynyrd Sound he dont have and is probly why Ron V and band split ways years ago yeah he replays the old tunes great in a show but his style is not nothing like the origenal sound of influence on the new songs

Rick is Blackfoot showboat contribution to recordings but Ed is Real deal Lynyrd Skynyrd downhome swamp thunder Hell house sound.

Where Ed king Has the TOUCH of SOUND thats trademark Lynyrd Skynyrd crafty punch.

Call him Fat make fun of him all ya want Call him this or that be mad he sued or whatever But FACTS ARE THE FACTS
ED KING HAS GOT THAT SOUND THAT PEOPLE LIKE TO HEAR IN HARMONY IN LYNYRD SKYNYRD MUSIC just listen to that slide on last rebel and 1991 so many other songs ed is on.

ED left in 75 Becuse the road was a demon monster maybe its not his thing anymore just as then Who knows maybe Ed dont like touring or playing out pounding down the road and likes to be home thats great for him then Maybe theres no quarrel at all but fans that Know the Skynyrd History KNOW about ED ,BOB ,ARTIMUS and others .

Thank You Lynyrd Skynyrd for the music!

I disagree. Ed provides a punch to the intro to "SHA" that no one else could have, IMO....not even Hughie Thomasson (RIP).

Well, all I can do is give you this link to the Winterland concert in '75. Watch Mr. King sing with Ronnie, play & make the classic LS sound, and play the dual leads with Allen wonderfully. This is the band at it's finest apex in my opinion.

I disagree. If you watch the Hamburg Germany show November 1974 you can watch Ed step all over Allen's lead with some alien psychedelic weird playing that does not even come close to contributing to the song Free Bird. It is horrible to watch Ed beat Free Bird to death like that with Ronnie and Allen and Gary all looking around the stage at each other wondering what the heck is he playing as Ronnie calls a halt to the song by using his hand to cut, cut, cut, across his throat long before Ed is even close to ending his butchery of Allen's classic song.

Nope. The best band was with Steve Gaines. Watch Asbury Park 1977. That is Skynyrd at the top or apex as you put it. Steve was a guitar player who complimented Skynyrd instead of contrasting the band's music. Steve was much much better and many of loved the Skynyrd we got after Ed ran with his tail between his legs. Thank god!

This is Winterland 1975. Not trying to fight about it, but in this video, you can see and hear the distinctive licks that Ed wrote and brought to these songs. They ALL look to be digging it, and sound fantastic to me!

I was referring to the original post and how he was wondering why Ed is not mentioned on this site. RE-read his original post and my response.

I like Ed and his work with the band, those first three albums and the early material recorded in Muscle Shoals is the best Lynyrd Skynyrd has ever been.

OMFTR and SS are Skynyrd's best.
