Band Re-Unite Idea?

I love our line up now, don't get me wrong (still miss hearing Billy's piano playing - and nothing against Peter, but to me, Powell just can't be "replaced." Keys does a good job and fits in great, but I miss Billy's playing.

Anyway, the point of this post is, what do you guys think of potentially putting the old band together for a few new songs on the new cd that is rumored to come out? It wouldn't have to be the whole cd, but maybe about 5 songs on the 2nd cd (like the deluxe one they had last time)? The current group would be the one's who tour, this would kind of be like an added bonus :o).

The lineup could be like this:

Johnny Van Zant - Lead Vocals
Gary Rossington - Lead/Rhythm Guitar
Ed King - Lead Guitar
Randall Hall - Guitar*
Bob Burns - Drums/Percussion**
Peter Keys - Piano/Keyboards
Larry Jundstrom - Bass

* = I plugged in Randall since Allen was good friends with Randall and Hall was a member of the group before. Larry, since he was with the founding group, would be cool to borrow from 38 Special for a few songs. I'm sure Donnie and Don would have no issue with that. If Larry turns it down, Ed King or Robert Kearns could play bass, with Gary, Randall, and Rickey on guitars.

I don't know if he does, but it would be cool if Billy had a son, and if he played keyboards and if Leon's son Lee, played bass. Again, it wouldn't be the touring band, much less permanent, just kind of like a collaboration.

The reason I ask this is because it sounds intriguing. Not only that, but other bands who have been around are thinking of doing the same. One of my all time favorite bands, heavy metal band ANTHRAX has already reunited with all their lead singer Joey Belladonna recently and made him a permanent member of the band again. He left in 1990 and created bands like Helmet and one other (name slips my mind right now), so their line up is Joey Belladonna, Scott Ian, Charlie Benate, Frank Bello, and Rob Caggiano again. They have a new song out, about killing zombies...lol, called "Fight 'Em Till You Can't". I've put the link to a LIVE perfomance of the reunited band performance, and the studio version below that.

MAN all I gotta say is wat planet are you from??? and what are ya doin HERE?? Ya talk about anointing people with tha creed of hades, how they should do this with tha band, and do that with tha band. I am surprised they put up with your devilistic BS.

What did I say that is wrong? All I stated was would it be cool to see some of the original members perform some new songs on the rumored new cd? I didn't say we were going to break up the group, let alone replace any of the original members. Just put a few songs on there with the members of the older days. Nothing I said was to take a shot at anyone. It's just a curious question man.


And just because my screen name and quote have something to do with the "devil" does not mean I praise him. I'm a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. It's just from a band man...

Bob wouldn't do it-and they HAVE a Drummer , his Name is Michael.
And Larry is in .38 Special.And he has been for a long Time.

RossingtonRules, thank you for your response.

I was not aware that Hall and King had sued the band. (Guess you learn new things every day! ). Michael Cartelleone is an amazing drummer. I know Larry is in 38.

I wasn't trying to say any member was going to be replaced. I was just wondering on a collaboration. I do appreciate you filling me in on some things I didn't know about the band. Do you know why Hall and King sued them? (I know all about the riff between Pyle and the band, just not the King/Hall situation).

Either way, you know they may have a new cd coming out, and I wouldn't be suprised if it goes higher than 18 on the billboard 100. I'm starting to see younger ones starting to go away from the mainstream and see just how genius and amazing this band has ALWAYS been. I really think Johnny does an EXCEPTIONAL job for Ronnie.

But either way...instead of babbling, I appreciate your response RossingtonRules. Would you be able to fill me in on the question I asked above? Thanks!

Furst off, it's Master of Disharmony, not "Spawn". Second, how am I being negative? How is asking a general question about a collaboration being "negative"? Aren't we allowed to ask questions on this board? I thought this was a place you could come to discuss (talk about, ask questions, etc...) about the band. In my initial post I mentioned I didn't want the band to be changed or replaced. The band we have is amazing as it is. It was just a simple question.

However, I do appreciate RossingtonRules giving me a response to my question. I learned some new things about the band and it's former members that I did not know before.

You've spent a couple years here cultivating a demeanor of being the spelling guy, and generally not the friendliest, most approachable person.

If you were going to change your name from Spawn--- rather than Master of Disharmony- going to something less negative like Basket full of puppies might of helped.

It was probably unintentional, but did you plan on other posters referring to you as Master?

I love how you take 2/3 posts and summarize the past few years and declare me as a "not warm, non-approachable person" You declare me as negative. Other than the postings that questioned NASCAR, and questioning someone who declares himself a better Skynyrd fan than everyone else, where are all my other postings that make me a "not warm, non-approachable person?" Generally my posts have been upbeat, or have questions that I ask of others. Go through all my posts. You'll see that. I love how people on here get bent out of shape when I questioned NASCAR. What's worse is I was told that "if I didn't like NASCAR I should leave because Skynyrd likes NASCAR." One of the most incredibly odd statements I've ever heard. Where is it stated that I have to like NASCAR if I like Skynyrd. I have the freedom to like whatever it is that I please. But go look through all my posts, I can GUARANTEE YOU that the majority of the posts are positive and upbeat. All the years I've been here. Go look. Posts where I ask questions, post pictures, discuss topics with people...all on there. You chose to focus on a few topics and paint me something that I'm not. If you knew me personally, you'd see that. I'm a humble guy who is upbeat and overly happy. However I do have my views in life, and I'm not going to become a fake.

Because I chose a screen name of a song of another band I like (Dimmu Borgir) that makes me negative? I didn't know my screen name had to be of liking of everyone on this board.

All you guys do is spend time attacking me for miniscule things that you have overblown. As mentioned, the majority 90% of my posts/threads are positive and you slam me for the smaller ones. Good to know.

In terms of the spelling issue, that has been discussed and discussed, and discussed some more. It's old already. And I refuse to bring it up again.

I shouldn't dislike a band because you don't like a name of a song. You're entitled to like what you like; I am entitled to like what I like.

Done. Discussed. Ended. STOP bringing up old news. And stop calling me negative when it's the furthest thing from the truth.

What I dont get, is why you spend so much of your time trying to debunk whether or not it was a sport?

Telling me to be respectful in dialogue all whilst calling me "negative," "cynical," telling me that college education is nice, but I need street smarts...etc... is being respectful of me?

I have parents. They worked hard in their lives and we're all successful individuals. I'm sure your son is successful as well. You don't know me personally, nor do you know anyone who's near me. For the love of God, can we discuss SKYNYRD and stop having you guys come on all my posts and make comments that have NOTHING to do with the thread? The new rumored cd turned NASCAR argument thread was shut down. And I'm glad. I'm sick of this back and forth pity-patter arguments. It's old. It's tiring. It's ANNOYING. Let's talk Skynyrd. If you're going to response with anything other, I'm just going to ignore it. I'm sick of arguing.

swampland.com has an interview with randall hall.He details why he sued them.
King was one of the guitarists for the reunited Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1987, until being forced to leave in 1996 due to congestive heart failure. He left on the basis that he would rejoin once he regained his health, but the band did not allow him to rejoin. King filed a lawsuit for breach of contract, which was settled out of court in 1999.
